Monday Mishaps (1)
The creative process is hard. Now and then something goes right, but most often it goes wrong. I could write a daily blog about all my mishaps, but to keep up my selfesteem, I will post only once a week on this subject. At least until the moment when more things go right than wrong, but I think that will take a while.
Today I will show you a drawing I made with a quote I found on the internet and which suits my way of life. I started by painting the right page without a preconceived idea. After the page was colored in yellow and blue gouache, I got stuck with a blank left page. That didn’t look very nice, but I couldn’t figure out how to extend the right page doodle onto the left page. So I made a new drawing and flipped the ratio yellow:blue. The colors made the drawing look coherent, but the drawings have nothing in common. They even have different drawing styles. As a sketch, the drawing is fine, but I will really need a preconceived idea if I want to make a good drawing.
By the way, drawing with a white Posca pen onto yellow gouache is hard. Quickly, the gouache gets stuck onto the pen tip and makes the white yellow. Fortunately, I did not had this problem with other kinds of colors of gouache.
Maandagse Mislukkingen
Het creatieve proces is zwaar. Zo nu en dan gaat er iets goed, maar vaker gaat het fout. Ik zou een dagelijkse blog over al mijn fouten kunnen schrijven, maar om mijn zelfvertrouwen overeind te houden, houd ik het bij eenmaal per week. Tot het moment dat er meer goed gaat dan fout, maar dat zal nog wel even duren.
Vandaag een tekening die ik maakte bij een tekst die ik op internet vond en die past bij mijn manier van leven. Ik startte met schilderen op de rechterpagina, zonder een vooropgezet plan. Nadat deze pagina met gele en blauwe gouache was ingekleurd, hield ik een witte linkerpagina over. Dat zag er niet fraai uit, maar ik kon ook niet bedenken hoe ik de droedel van de rechterpagina door kon trekken naar de linkerpagina. Dus maakte ik een nieuwe tekening, waarbij ik de verhouding geel:blauw omdraaide. De kleuren zorgden er voor dat er één geheel ontstond, maar de tekeningen op de twee pagina’s hebben niets met elkaar te maken en hebben zelfs een andere stijl. Waarschijnlijk was de tekst ook beter tot zijn recht gekomen wanneer hij op de linkerpagina had gestaan. Als schets is deze tekening prima, maar voor een goede tekening heb ik toch echt een plan nodig.
Oh ja, met een witte Posca pen tekenen op gele gouache is niet te doen. De pen neemt al heel snel de kleur van de gouache aan. Bij andere kleuren gouache gaat het gelukkig beter.
